High impact weather day across the South Coast: Cold front depicts the estimated position of the Arctic front this morning, sprinkling in some thundersnow west of UBC. 🎶🎸You heard…THUNDERSNOW 🎸🎶 /x99oxFcQzpĪccording to Hamilton, the impacted affected areas were mostly in the south coast. One Twitter user said thunder snow could be a cool name for a rock group.

Who else was woken, twice, this morning by thundersnow? #vancouver #burnaby #thunder So I DIDNT dream being woken up overnight by thunder Others took to social media to see if everyone else heard it. Thunder snow in Burnaby #vancouver #snow #burnaby #canada #theweathernetwork #vancouversnow #bcstorm #bcsnow /ISXbKkuM9b One Burnaby resident caught it on video, which shows snow falling as a flash of lightning lights up the scene. It happens when “cold air blows across the relatively mild water of the Great Lakes, forcing the air upwards rapidly enough that the instability causes lightning and thunder in conjunction with heavy snow.” During thundersnows, the snow dampens the thunder so it sounds like a muffled timpani drum rather than the loud cracking and booming of a summer thunderstorm. Thunder snow mostly occurs in the Great Lakes region, according to the Farmers’ Almanac. Thundersnow is so rare, we don’t have a proper icon for it, but it made the observation at YVR… #BCSnow /ZVsxAtpNJmĪn observation report from Vancouver Airport confirmed the weather incident, describing it as a “thunderstorm with light snow.” “Thundersnow is so rare, we don’t have a proper icon for it,” he tweeted. However, it was not just any ordinary thunderstorm.Īccording to The Weather Network’s Digital Meteorologist Tyler Hamilton, it was a rare thunder snow. The strongest of these was Lei Gong, the god of thunder. Read on to learn how she became linked to the thunder god and what her role was in his duty In Chinese folklore, a number of deities were responsible for causing storms. Hopefully it can be fixed soon.Īsobo will get this straightened out sooner or later. If you thought you heard thunder in Vancouver last night, you weren’t imagining it. Published on Decem8 SHARES Share Tweet In Chinese mythology, Leizi is the goddess of lightning. Something changed around SU3 where we lost many of the cloud types and opacity. But they should be in the Southern Hemisphere as we just passed mid-Summer down there. The last time the region saw a substantially rainy June was in. The good news is that in nature, thunderstorms aren’t prevalent right now in the northern hemisphere. The San Luis Obispo area, on average, receives about 0.1 inches of rain during the month of June, according to the Weather Service. It also went from no towering cumulus/cumulonimbus almost anywhere to cumulonimbus EVERYWHERE and attacking the ground! This seems to be a typical pattern Asobo is dealing with on multiple fronts (no pun intended ). Once again, the potentiometer swings from one extreme to the other “lightning everywhere!” to “lightning almost nowhere!”. I note there was nothing noted in the changelog for t I was going to take a screenshot of there being no lightning then realised that it was a bit of a pointless thing for me to do look some clouds! I note there was nothing noted in the changelog for the urgent fix to live weather (which was really appreciated thank you MS/Asobo), does this issue remain on the “to do” list, there are ongoing weather improvements on there but I can’t see Lightning/Thunder increase in there? Frankly if it’s possible to get from one end of Venezuela to another at night and not see any lightning either nearby or in the distance, then there is an issue.

Storm clouds, a little turbulance, rain (no hail sadly) but no lightning found at night. There were no further findings, in the last week I’ve been through areas of high Cape on the Garmins, in the forecast and in reality in South America. My first finding is the issue isn’t with the forecast from which MSFS generates live weather, it seems pretty good at predicting storms. One community member managed to find some live lightning in Australia which inspired me to go up and stalk some storms in the Meteoblue forecast and some showing up live on. Being a weather nut, I tend to gravitate towards forecast and current big weather events. For fear of seeming like a broken record…Live thunderstorms with lightning are still as rare as hens’ teeth.
